New York City has announced that it will demolish at least 200 homes that were rendered unfit for human habitation by Hurricane Sandy. Meanwhile, beachfront areas of some parts of Long Island are facing a health crisis over hundreds of thousands of cubic yards of “storm garbage” that have been bulldozed together, and also by the continuing backup of sewage-contaminated water into houses and backyards.
In other news, Israel responded to continuing Palestinian missile attacks by targeting the headquarters of Hamas in Gaza, the same building that had been visited by the Egyptian prime minister just a day earlier.
